Put Your Rally Caps On!

Good Morning My Friends,

If you’re anything like me, I’ve learned many life lessons on the baseball/softball field. So when I get a chance to watch a feel-good baseball movie, I’m in!

A few weeks ago, I was tipped off to a movie via Coach Ballgame James Lowe who had a significant acting role in the film. Beyond his recommendation, it caught my attention when I saw that deafness played a considerable part in the storyline, including cameos by former deaf Major Leaguer Curtis Pride.

The movie: Rally Caps is based on the book aptly titled Rally Caps written by Stephen J. Cutler and Jodi Cutler

It officially stars Judd Hirsch, Amy Smart, and Carson Minniear. Unofficially, Coach Ballgame, Curtis Pride, and the fact that one of the main characters is deaf are why I watched it.

An injury derails a young baseball player’s dream of becoming a pitcher. At a sleepaway camp, he befriends a deaf catcher who helps him conquer his fear of returning to the mound.

When I wrote my first book Sky, the Deaf Home Run Hero: A Lesson in Courage in honor of my father, I hit the treetops of what I imagined his youth might have looked like on the baseball diamond as a deaf child with great baseball skills.

Unfortunately, I can't ask him directly.

Anyway back to the movie review.

  • If you're a fan of baseball, watch it.

  • If you're a fan of children impacting their friends, watch it.

  • If you're a fan of movies with deaf characters, watch it.

  • If you're a fan of family movies with several lessons that can be learned, watch it.

  • If you are breathing, watch it.

This movie carved out a spot in my heart because of its cast of characters and storyline. Take a chance and add it to your must-see list!
