Consistency Compounds

Good Morning My Friends!

What a week!

A few months ago, a friend of mine commented on one of my workouts that synced to Strava that my consistency was inspiring to them. To me it was just another workout, to him, it was a workout that prompted him to comment.

I've believed in the theory of 'never miss two days in a row' for much of the last fifteen years, particularly regarding weight-training workouts.

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear breaks it down like this:

"The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit."- James Clear

My friends; I don't care what habit you're trying to abide by. Heeding the advice of never missing two days in a row is one simple reminder that can help your consistency.

In addition to never missing two in a row. A big driver to compounding consistency is 'beating the streak'. I was recently reminded of that from a friend's post on Facebook where he was celebrating 200 days in a row of walking at least two miles per day!

Here is how his consistency compounded with this streak of two miles per day.

It amounted to 76,000 calories and over 160 hours of walking. All from a 200-day streak.

Are there apps that can help you track your streaks? Yes.

My preferred method to track is simply pen and paper. It's eye-opening when you look at the sheets of paper over time to see how your prioritization evolves.

My current 'beat the streak' is 10,000 steps. Currently, I'm at 116 days.

Is there a current streak you trying to beat right now? If so, what is it?

Lastly, a little math for you.

Getting 1% better every day for a year you'll be 37.78 times better at the end of the year.

Consistency Compounds My Friends!

Have a blessed weekend!

Wow, that's excellent advice. I love the compounding math, which is motivation in and of itself.
